FutureA-
A passer of the future in Daniels, and a B+, for the Patriots. Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
If Tupuola-Fetui pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Daniels at the 7th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick22
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 22 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at pick 50 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick71
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
No edge and no loss on Ja'Lynn Polk in the 71st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick90
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick103
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at slot 103 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Pick137
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick180
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in Round 6, Pick 5 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick193
Rnd6
Trente Jones
Trente Jones in the 193rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226
Rnd7
Brevyn Spann-Ford
They talked themselves into Brevyn Spann-Ford at Round 7, Pick 6, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick231
Rnd7
Rasheen Ali
They reached into another round for Rasheen Ali, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
