Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B+ for the Jets. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Stukes value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
They took Fernando Mendoza at par in slot 2, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick20
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In pick 20 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen in No. 33 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick44
Rnd2
Monroe Freeling
By-the-book stuff, Monroe Freeling at Round 2, Pick 12 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103
Rnd4
Devin Moore
They robbed the room for Devin Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Justin Joly
Justin Joly in pick No. 112 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick175
Rnd5
Bryce Boettcher
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bryce Boettcher in the Round 5 slot. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick177
Rnd5
Treydan Stukes
Taking Treydan Stukes in the 177th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Value with a capital V on Aaron Anderson in Round 5, Pick 40, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick192
Rnd6
Seth McGowan
A quiet steal in the 192nd pick: Seth McGowan for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jadon Canady
No edge and no loss on Jadon Canady in slot 209; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick218
Rnd7
Isaiah Nwokobia
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Nwokobia at No. 218, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jalen Huskey
No drama and no debate, Jalen Huskey went about where he belonged in the 225th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick242
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
The board had Jalon Daniels higher than the Round 7 slot, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
