Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Dolphins robbed the room for Lawson. Final grade: B+. Whoever sat across the table from the Dolphins should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They banked enough surplus on Lawson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The Scott pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and tight end still on the board. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
Good price on Jermod McCoy in the 11th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick62
Rnd2
Blake Miller
By-the-book stuff, Blake Miller at pick No. 62 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
Steal is underselling it; Deontae Lawson at pick 77 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Keionte Scott while clear needs at edge rusher and tight end sat open.
Pick87
Rnd3
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in slot 87 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick90
Rnd3
Drew Shelton
No drama and no debate, Drew Shelton went about where he belonged in the 90th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick108
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
A straight-up fair deal on Bishop Fitzgerald at Round 4, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at pick 115 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick149
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at No. 149 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227
Rnd7
Miller Moss
They paid sticker price for Miller Moss in pick No. 227, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick229
Rnd7
Aiden Fisher
They took Aiden Fisher at par in the 229th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick236
Rnd7
Trebor Pena
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trebor Pena. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick246
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the 246th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick254
Rnd7
Desmond Reid
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Desmond Reid. A need, and now a little less of one.
