Juju DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Williams in the fold, and a D- for the Bears. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Bears, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. They will need Taylor III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Estime where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
No edge and no loss on Caleb Williams in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
They took Rome Odunze at par in No. 9, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick52
Rnd2
Jonah Elliss
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jonah Elliss in pick No. 52. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
The board had cheaper options than Sedrick Van Pran at pick 75, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick84
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Leonard Taylor III. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick111
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Audric Estime slipping to Round 4, Pick 11 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick123
Rnd4
James Williams
A reach on James Williams in the 123rd pick; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick143
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
A reach for Theo Johnson in the 143rd overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
