The Giants jumped the board for Baxter and paid for it: F. Nobody else had CJ Baxter anywhere near the Round 5 slot. The Giants did, by 163 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Getting Scott where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.
