The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Eastern lower, and that gap is the story. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
