The Bears turned the phones into found money: A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Bears, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
They are betting McCaffrey proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The veteran additions, Dak Prescott chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In the end it comes back to Jared Verse, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the 9th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at pick 75 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
A reach for Jalen McMillan in the 93rd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick111
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 111, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 23 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick134
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke McCaffrey. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
By-the-book stuff, Tykee Smith at No. 143 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick197
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
They talked themselves into Tanor Bortolini at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
The board had cheaper options than Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
