Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureC
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Amos: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Trey Amos, the No. 50 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 233. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Reaching for Pierce left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In slot 25 they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Wyatt Milum
Fair-plus on Wyatt Milum, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45 Rnd2 Cameron Williams
Nice patience on Cameron Williams, who had no business lasting to the 45th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick48 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at pick No. 48 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick56 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to the 56th overall pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick62 Rnd2 Omarr Norman-Lott
They paid a round early for Omarr Norman-Lott in pick 62, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick64 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in the Round 2 slot, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick65 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
A safety of that caliber at No. 65 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick66 Rnd3 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick72 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
They robbed the room for Kaleb Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at pick 89 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick98 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm at pick No. 98 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in Round 4, Pick 21 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
Circle this one: Jack Nelson at slot 152 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
A clean, defensible pick in No. 232 with a little surplus value in Seth McLaughlin. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick233 Rnd7 Trey Amos
They will replay Trey Amos at the 233rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jack Bech
Jack Bech in the 240th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
