The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Golday: D+. Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Curry lower, and that gap is the story. The Golday pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In No. 19 they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick43
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in Round 2, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick60
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
Quietly one of the better values of the day, D'Angelo Ponds at the 60th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick85
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at slot 85 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jake Golday
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
A quiet steal in the 99th overall pick: Zakee Wheatley for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick119
Rnd4
Justin Joly
Justin Joly slipping to Round 4, Pick 19 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Logan Jones at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
No edge and no loss on Davison Igbinosun in No. 145; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jalen Stroman
They let Jalen Stroman come to them and pounced at the 150th overall pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick163
Rnd5
Lander Barton
They paid sticker price for Lander Barton in the 163rd pick, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick185
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They paid a round early for Trey Zuhn III in pick 185, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Josh Cuevas
No drama and no debate, Josh Cuevas went about where he belonged in pick No. 196. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Luke Altmyer
Luke Altmyer is a better player than slot 213 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick223
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
Joey Aguilar at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
