The Chiefs cashed the board's mistake on Ransom: C-. The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Lathan Ransom, the No. 109 name on the board, sitting there at the 256th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. It lands right in the middle: a C-, no more, no less.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Kennard has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 39 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in slot 41 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Kyle Kennard
A reach on Kyle Kennard in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick66
Rnd3
Malaki Starks
They barely believed it either: Malaki Starks still on the board at the 66th pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick95
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
You do not let a cornerback like Zy Alexander reach pick 95 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick132
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Circle this one: Jordan Phillips at No. 132 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick256
Rnd7
Lathan Ransom
Somehow Lathan Ransom was still sitting there in the 256th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
