A masterclass at the trade table lands the 49ers a B-.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the 49ers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.

The James pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. Allen at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Whittington reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
