Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. Nobody had DeMonte Capehart this high, and it is not close. The Steelers reached 58 spots to get him at No. 242. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with edge rusher, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. King at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 23rd pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. More want than need.
Pick53
Rnd2
Kalen King
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kalen King at the 53rd overall pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, running back and other spots to take Sedrick Van Pran, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick90
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
They paid up for Tykee Smith at slot 90 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick120
Rnd4
Johnny Dixon
The board had cheaper options than Johnny Dixon at No. 120, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They paid a round early for Cedric Gray in pick 121, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in slot 126, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick199
Rnd6
Taulia Tagovailoa
Taulia Tagovailoa in the 199th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick242
Rnd7
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at No. 242 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
