FutureB+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Packers and McCoy: B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
However the rest shakes out, McCoy at that price is a win they earned. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 19th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
By-the-book stuff, Calen Bullock at Round 2, Pick 19 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick83
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in No. 83 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in slot 112 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Fisher at the 119th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick135
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Value with a capital V on Sataoa Laumea in pick 135, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick150
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden in slot 150 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick197
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the 197th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick217
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy in pick No. 217 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219
Rnd6
Zion Nelson
The board had Zion Nelson higher than the 219th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick240
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
Nice patience on Nathaniel Watson, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
