Draft Grade — Packers

FutureB
The Packers let McCoy fall and pounced. Final grade: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Bru McCoy had no business being available in the 219th pick, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The Packers indulged a want in Brade while a need in quarterback, tight end and other spots stayed open. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In No. 28 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick51
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
No drama and no debate, Calen Bullock went about where he belonged in the 51st pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick73
Rnd3
Kris Jenkins
They barely believed it either: Kris Jenkins still on the board at Round 3, Pick 9. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick83
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in pick No. 83 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick92
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A clean, defensible pick in the 92nd overall pick with a little surplus value in TreVeyon Henderson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick119
Rnd4
Beau Brade
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Beau Brade at safety with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
Pick135
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at slot 135 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Pick161
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
They let Sincere Haynesworth come to them and pounced at the 161st overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick197
Rnd6
Ben Bywater
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 22, where Ben Bywater graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick217
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Somehow Joshua Gray was still sitting there in No. 217, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick240
Rnd7
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at the 240th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
