Martinez should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a B-. Somebody in the 235th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Damien Martinez, the No. 162 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
