The Bengals checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. There is reaching, and then there is Sheridan Jones at No. 149. The Bengals jumped the board by 70 and dared it to prove them wrong. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The Torrence steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 18th pick they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 36, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick80
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A real head-scratcher, Zak Zinter in slot 80 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick97
Rnd3
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at No. 97 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A reach on Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick149
Rnd5
Sheridan Jones
A big swing on Sheridan Jones at the 149th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick194
Rnd6
Ro Torrence
Nice patience on Ro Torrence, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
