Matron DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Graham Mertz a full 115 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Majors pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Benjamin Morrison
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54
Rnd2
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at Round 2, Pick 22 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick87
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
They paid sticker price for Denzel Burke in the 87th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123
Rnd4
Pat Bryant
A real head-scratcher, Pat Bryant in the 123rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jake Majors
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 160 is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in No. 200 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick239
Rnd7
Clay Webb
Clay Webb at Round 7, Pick 21 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick251
Rnd7
Graham Mertz
Value said wait; Graham Mertz in pick No. 251 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
