Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Justice Haynes in the 151st overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

On value alone, Cole makes the weekend a net positive. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On the needs board they went 4 of 9, with safety the one that mattered most.

The back end got a real overhaul.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Zabien Brown
Zabien Brown in Round 1, Pick 21 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick52 Rnd2 Chris Cole
You do not let a linebacker like Chris Cole reach slot 52 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jyaire Hill
The board had cheaper options than Jyaire Hill at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick88 Rnd3 Peyton Bowen
Peyton Bowen in the 88th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick151 Rnd5 Justice Haynes
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Justice Haynes well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick202 Rnd6 Niki Prongos
A reach for Niki Prongos in pick No. 202; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick224 Rnd7 TJ Metcalf
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in TJ Metcalf. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick240 Rnd7 Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills at pick 240 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
