The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Jackson: B. Whoever sat across the table from the Steelers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Steelers indulged a want in Suamataia while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. The Jackson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Good price on Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 34, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick68
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kingsley Suamataia adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick84
Rnd3
Max Melton
Max Melton at the 84th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaden Hicks in slot 98. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Audric Estime
A straight-up fair deal on Audric Estime at the 103rd pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick119
Rnd4
James Williams
No drama and no debate, James Williams went about where he belonged in pick 119. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 3. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick195
Rnd6
Jha'Quan Jackson
Steal is underselling it; Jha'Quan Jackson at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
