Cloud9blazers DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Elliot Washington II at No. 239 is 50 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
Landing Mathews Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The Johnson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Jordan Seaton
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick52
Rnd2
Kewan Lacy
The board had Kewan Lacy higher than the Round 2 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick78
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Greg Johnson, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick88
Rnd3
Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill in the 88th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Justice Haynes
Justice Haynes at pick No. 149 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick192
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Taking Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 192nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick202
Rnd6
TJ Metcalf
The board had cheaper options than TJ Metcalf at pick 202, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223
Rnd7
Addison Nichols
Addison Nichols in Round 7, Pick 4 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick239
Rnd7
Elliot Washington II
A wild overpay on Elliot Washington II in No. 239, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
