Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureB
Simpson is the plan now, and the Steelers grade out a B-.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Steelers committed. Ty Simpson is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

The Prongos pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots still on the board.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In slot 21 they get the arm they will build around. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick53 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick85 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields in Round 3, Pick 21 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Golday
A edge rusher of that caliber at the 99th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick121 Rnd4 Niki Prongos
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Niki Prongos in No. 121 leaves interior defensive lineman, linebacker and other spots for later.
Pick136 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
They paid sticker price for CJ Daniels in the 136th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick160 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aamil Wagner. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick213 Rnd6 Robert Spears-Jennings
By-the-book stuff, Robert Spears-Jennings at pick No. 213 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214 Rnd6 Barion Brown
Barion Brown at pick 214 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick224 Rnd7 Dijon Johnson
No drama and no debate, Dijon Johnson went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 8. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Rico Flores Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Rico Flores Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
