Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureD-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Greenfield from sliding. Grade: C+.

Somebody in the 255th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Garret Greenfield, the No. 229 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Colson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In the 20th pick they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick32 Rnd1 Junior Colson
In the 32nd overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
A reach on T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Chris Braswell
A quiet steal in slot 67: Chris Braswell for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick84 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
They took Dominick Puni at par in No. 84, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick98 Rnd3 DJ James
Nothing to complain about; DJ James went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick100 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at pick 100 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at Round 4, Pick 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick178 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in the 178th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick195 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 20. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick219 Rnd6 Jalen Coker
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalen Coker at pick No. 219. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255 Rnd7 Garret Greenfield
Circle this one: Garret Greenfield at No. 255 is a fall that decides a draft. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
