Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB- TradesA- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Nehemiah Pritchett, the Round 6 slot, roughly 35 picks past where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Every board in the league had Tagovailoa lower, and that gap is the story. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Frazier pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety, edge rusher and other spots still on the board.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In No. 31 they get a building block for the line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick39 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Value with a capital V on Brian Thomas Jr. in slot 39, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Zach Frazier in the Round 2 slot leaves safety, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick90 Rnd3 DeWayne Carter
They jumped the gun on DeWayne Carter, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98 Rnd3 Cam Hart
They paid sticker price for Cam Hart in pick No. 98, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104 Rnd4 Andru Phillips
They took Andru Phillips at par in No. 104, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick119 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Maason Smith slid further than he should have, and the 119th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
The board fumbled Luke McCaffrey all the way to Round 6, Pick 1, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178 Rnd6 Nehemiah Pritchett
Nehemiah Pritchett in the 178th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick195 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gabe Hall. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick251 Rnd7 Taulia Tagovailoa
They reached a country mile for Taulia Tagovailoa at pick No. 251, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
