Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+. Nobody had Joe Milton III this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 79 spots to get him at the Round 4 slot. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The veteran additions, Curtis Samuel chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 6 they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 9 they get a weapon on the perimeter. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a load in the middle at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in the 35th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick40
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at the 40th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick60
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A reach on Xavier Legette in No. 60; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
A wild overpay on Bucky Irving in the 75th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at pick 99 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in No. 106 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
They talked themselves into Jamari Thrash at slot 109, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick120
Rnd4
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in the 120th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
They liked Tommy Eichenberg enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 27. It fills a real need, too.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick145
Rnd5
Isaiah Williams
They reached into another round for Isaiah Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
