Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureC-
The Eagles kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

The Eagles went off the board in a big way for Dont'e Thornton Jr., 48 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

On value alone, Pearce Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 James Pearce Jr.
In the 32nd pick they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nice patience on Nick Emmanwori, who had no business lasting to No. 33. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick88 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
The board had Barrett Carter higher than the 88th overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick96 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
A reasonable price with a little left over, Darius Alexander in pick 96. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick104 Rnd4 Oluwafemi Oladejo
They talked themselves into Oluwafemi Oladejo at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134 Rnd4 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Value said wait; Dont'e Thornton Jr. in Round 4, Pick 32 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jaydon Blue
Jaydon Blue at the 161st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick164 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
The board had cheaper options than Willie Lampkin at the 164th overall pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick165 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at pick No. 165 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168 Rnd5 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at Round 5, Pick 30 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
