Draft Grade — Eagles

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Eagles to a D-. The Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson pick is the one that will follow the Eagles into the fall. They took him 31 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Shough value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick64
Rnd2
Mason Taylor
They jumped the gun on Mason Taylor, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick86
Rnd3
David Walker
A wild overpay on David Walker in the 86th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick96
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Tez Johnson at the 96th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
No drama and no debate, Denzel Burke went about where he belonged in slot 117. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick125
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
A reach on Malachi Moore in pick 125; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick134
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
They took Hollin Pierce at par in pick No. 134, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick151
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Willie Lampkin. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick156
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 18: Tyler Shough for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick158
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in the 158th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick161
Rnd5
CJ West
They talked themselves into CJ West at No. 161, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 164th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick165
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in pick 165 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick168
Rnd5
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at slot 168 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 181, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
