FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Eagles to a D-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took Que Robinson a full 68 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Put together, it is a D-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. On value alone, Cornelius makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick64
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at slot 64 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick80
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 16 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick96
Rnd3
David Walker
They jumped the gun on David Walker, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at pick 108 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Que Robinson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Que Robinson in pick No. 117, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
A tidy bit of business in the 134th overall pick, where Jacob Parrish graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick151
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malachi Moore at No. 151. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick156
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Oronde Gadsden II well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Somehow Tyler Shough was still sitting there in pick No. 161, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick164
Rnd5
Clay Webb
They reached into another round for Clay Webb, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick165
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in the 165th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick168
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ty Robinson in pick 168. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick180
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dont'e Thornton Jr.. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Ajani Cornelius
The board fumbled Ajani Cornelius all the way to slot 222, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
