Draft Grade — Eagles
Overall

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Eagles to a D-. The Hayden Conner pick is the one that will follow the Eagles into the fall. They took him 38 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They banked enough surplus on Shough to cover a lot of smaller sins. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In the 32nd pick they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in pick 64 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick96
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in No. 96 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Tez Johnson at Round 4, Pick 17 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
No edge and no loss on Hollin Pierce in slot 134; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick156
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at pick No. 156 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
No drama and no debate, Barryn Sorrell went about where he belonged in slot 161. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Tyler Shough in No. 164, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick166
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at pick 166 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick168
Rnd5
Que Robinson
They talked themselves into Que Robinson at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick193
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
They took Oronde Gadsden II at par in the 193rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick229
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the 229th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick241
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
A conviction pick on Tonka Hemingway at pick No. 241 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
