Draft Grade — Eagles

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Eagles to a D-. Nobody had Gino Garcia this high, and it is not close. The Eagles reached 70 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 19. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Taylor pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In slot 32 they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at No. 64 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick84
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at the 84th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick97
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
They barely believed it either: Mason Taylor still on the board at the 97th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jake Majors
No drama and no debate, Jake Majors went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 28. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick134
Rnd4
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick137
Rnd4
Que Robinson
A wild overpay on Que Robinson in pick 137, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick161
Rnd5
CJ West
A real head-scratcher, CJ West in pick No. 161 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick164
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dont'e Thornton Jr. this early at Round 5, Pick 26. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick165
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at slot 165 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod in the 168th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
They reached a country mile for Jay Higgins at the 185th pick, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick223
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hayden Conner well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick235
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
