Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
D
ValueC+
NeedA-
TradesF
FutureB+
The Cardinals answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: D. The Cardinals treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 189 on Bryce Foster a full 38 spots early. Put together, it is a D.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
They liked Fernando Mendoza enough to skip the value, taking him in the 8th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick12
Rnd1
LT Overton
In pick 12 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Ja'Kobi Lane
A conviction pick on Ja'Kobi Lane at slot 41 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Sonny Styles in No. 72, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107
Rnd4
Caleb Tiernan
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Caleb Tiernan at the 107th pick is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick151
Rnd5
Zane Durant
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zane Durant well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price in No. 153 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick175
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 175 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick177
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. in pick No. 177 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick189
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bryce Foster this early at the 189th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick231
Rnd7
Malik Hartford
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malik Hartford in the 231st pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
