Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Steelers.

There is a lot to like until you notice interior defensive lineman is still a hole. The Steelers never got to the one that mattered most.

Lee III at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If Easter pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick 21 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick76 Rnd3 Will Lee III
Will Lee III is a better player than the 76th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at the 85th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
A straight-up fair deal on D'Angelo Ponds at slot 99, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in pick No. 121 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kyle Louis
They jumped the gun on Kyle Louis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick159 Rnd5 Taylen Green
No edge and no loss on Taylen Green in Round 5, Pick 21; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick213 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona in slot 213 is fair value, right on his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick214 Rnd6 Robert Spears-Jennings
Nothing to complain about; Robert Spears-Jennings went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224 Rnd7 Shamar Easter
They paid up for Shamar Easter at pick 224 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237 Rnd7 Haynes King
They took Haynes King at par in Round 7, Pick 21, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
