It is a puzzling start. The Steelers had quarterback, safety and other spots to solve and reached instead for Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman, at the 51st pick.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Frazier left real value on the table behind him.

Lovett at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
