Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: B+.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent No. 235 on Barryn Sorrell, a name most had 93 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

The Sanders steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In No. 14 they get a security blanket over the middle. More want than need.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at the 39th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick49 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
A straight-up fair deal on Aireontae Ersery at slot 49, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Fair-plus on Jared Ivey, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124 Rnd4 Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro in Round 4, Pick 23 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick197 Rnd6 Nazir Stackhouse
No drama and no debate, Nazir Stackhouse went about where he belonged in the 197th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick199 Rnd6 Raheim Sanders
Taking Raheim Sanders in the 199th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick235 Rnd7 Barryn Sorrell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barryn Sorrell this early at Round 7, Pick 17. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick242 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Theo Wease Jr. at pick 242 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
