Adam DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
C
ValueD+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
The Bears lost the trade table, and the C tells the story. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Bears started one anyway for Jackson Powers-Johnson, 38 picks ahead of schedule.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
If Keon Coleman and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
In No. 6 they get a go-to option on the outside, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick16
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Value said wait; Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 42 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick47
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens in the 47th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick48
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins at pick No. 48 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74
Rnd3
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 74th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick105
Rnd4
Audric Estime
No edge and no loss on Audric Estime in pick No. 105; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick128
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at slot 128 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
