The Ravens cashed the board's mistake on Smith: B. The Ravens spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tykee Smith, the No. 97 name on the board, in the Round 4 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The cost of the Robinson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a true top target. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
Somehow T.J. Tampa was still sitting there in slot 62, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick93
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They reached into another round for Darius Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at pick 131 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick134
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at pick No. 134, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick164
Rnd5
Jaylen Wright
They did well to land Jaylen Wright in the 164th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in the 178th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jeremy Flax
A reach on Jeremy Flax in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
