Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
Bowman Jr. should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Billy Bowman Jr. tumbling to the Patriots in the Round 5 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In pick 30 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that.
Pick38 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Fair-plus on Omarion Hampton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick56 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
A quiet steal in the 56th overall pick: Aireontae Ersery for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
They did well to land Jayden Higgins in the 62nd pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris in pick No. 69 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey at Round 3, Pick 13 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144 Rnd5 Billy Bowman Jr.
Circle this one: Billy Bowman Jr. at No. 144 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins is a better player than No. 217 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick220 Rnd7 Addison West
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Addison West in the 220th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
Jermari Harris at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
