hewdog23 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
A
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Patriots and Fitzgerald: A. You build a draft on nights like this. Ryan Fitzgerald had no business being available in pick No. 219, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A.
Brosmer has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In pick No. 14 they get a disruptor off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
They took Alfred Collins at par in pick 53, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at the 69th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick105
Rnd4
Demetrius Knight Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Demetrius Knight Jr. reach the 105th overall pick and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick120
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
Circle this one: TreVeyon Henderson at slot 120 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick145
Rnd5
Jake Majors
They will replay Jake Majors at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick173
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
The board fumbled Barrett Carter all the way to Round 5, Pick 34, and they scooped it up. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick219
Rnd7
Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald in No. 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick222
Rnd7
Luke Elzinga
Luke Elzinga in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick237
Rnd7
Lander Barton
Lander Barton at slot 237 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick240
Rnd7
Max Brosmer
Max Brosmer at No. 240 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
