FutureA+
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a A-. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Bo Nix is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Carson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Bo Nix and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the 24th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
JC Latham
JC Latham at pick No. 34 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in No. 56 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jermaine Burton
Nice patience on Jermaine Burton, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87
Rnd3
Blake Corum
They did well to land Blake Corum in the 87th pick, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick114
Rnd4
Caelen Carson
Steal is underselling it; Caelen Carson at Round 4, Pick 14 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick137
Rnd5
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at slot 137 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick153
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tommy Eichenberg at pick 153. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick180
Rnd6
Walter Rouse
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Walter Rouse in slot 180. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick193
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 193 with a little surplus value in Tanor Bortolini. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick231
Rnd7
Keith Randolph Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keith Randolph Jr. at the 231st overall pick is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
