Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesD+ FutureA+
A franchise passer in Maye headlines a B weekend for the Patriots.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

The Torrence value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Ford pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Brian Thomas Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick53 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa in Round 2, Pick 21 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick68 Rnd3 Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice at slot 68 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103 Rnd4 Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at No. 103 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick112 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick 112 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick120 Rnd4 Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick No. 120 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick137 Rnd5 Beau Brade
They took Beau Brade at par in the 137th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick180 Rnd6 Tip Reiman
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tip Reiman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick193 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick231 Rnd7 Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence in Round 7, Pick 11 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
