The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a A-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Kyle Hergel at the Round 7 slot, a reach of 116 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The Laube pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
