FutureA+
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B+. The war room fell hard for Max Brosmer, and it showed at the 238th overall pick: 77 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The Trapilo pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
They liked Aireontae Ersery enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 38. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
No edge and no loss on Jayden Higgins in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
A real head-scratcher, Cam Skattebo in the 79th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102
Rnd3
Terrance Ferguson
The board had cheaper options than Terrance Ferguson at pick 102, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick116
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Circle this one: Ozzy Trapilo at the 116th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed in No. 144 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in Round 6, Pick 20 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick217
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III in the 217th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick220
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam at the 220th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick224
Rnd7
Drew Kendall
They talked themselves into Drew Kendall at slot 224, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick238
Rnd7
Max Brosmer
Max Brosmer at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
