The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Smael Mondon Jr. fell into pick No. 219. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

They will need Lachey to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
