Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureA
Sanders should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Raheim Sanders, the No. 174 name on the board, stolen at the 217th overall pick.

With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In No. 14 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
They let Malaki Starks come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at pick 45 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick69 Rnd3 Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo in slot 69 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick77 Rnd3 Chris Paul Jr.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 77 on Chris Paul Jr. with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jaylin Noel
The board had Jaylin Noel higher than the 106th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick144 Rnd5 Dorian Strong
Circle this one: Dorian Strong at Round 5, Pick 6 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick217 Rnd7 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in the 217th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220 Rnd7 Woody Marks
They barely believed it either: Woody Marks still on the board at Round 7, Pick 4. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jaylin Lane
Nice patience on Jaylin Lane, who had no business lasting to pick 232. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Cam Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
