Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Patriots won the night they stopped Barton from sliding. Grade: A.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Lander Barton got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at slot 238. Very little went wrong, and the A is earned.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If Belton pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Will Campbell
Will Campbell in No. 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick29 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III is a better player than the Round 1 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick36 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders slid further than he should have, and the 36th pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick61 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
The board had Colston Loveland higher than pick 61, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67 Rnd3 Benjamin Morrison
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 67 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tez Johnson in Round 4, Pick 2. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick105 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick No. 105 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick138 Rnd5 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 138th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick166 Rnd5 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in No. 166 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick177 Rnd6 Mason Taylor
They robbed the room for Mason Taylor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at Round 6, Pick 39 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick219 Rnd7 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at the 219th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Kobe King
Kobe King at pick No. 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick238 Rnd7 Lander Barton
They barely believed it either: Lander Barton still on the board at the Round 7 slot. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
