There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took George Gumbs Jr. a full 73 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Banks pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
