Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C-
ValueA+ NeedB TradesF FutureB+
Lane should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a C-.

Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Ja'Kobi Lane, the No. 52 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. For now it grades a C-, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

If Spencer Fano and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In the 30th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick62 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
They robbed the room for Arvell Reese here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jordyn Tyson
You do not let a wide receiver like Jordyn Tyson reach pick No. 94 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jermod McCoy
The board fumbled Jermod McCoy all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick130 Rnd4 LT Overton
They barely believed it either: LT Overton still on the board at Round 4, Pick 30. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick170 Rnd5 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in pick 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick194 Rnd6 Dillon Thieneman
Steal is underselling it; Dillon Thieneman at slot 194 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jake Slaughter
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 197th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick244 Rnd7 Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
