Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesA FutureD-
The Patriots landed square in the muddy middle: C+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 210 spots for Reggie Grimes II, and value like that does not grow back.

The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Sabb makes the weekend a net positive.

The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In No. 15 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick62 Rnd2 Suntarine Perkins
Suntarine Perkins at the 62nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Keon Sabb
They read the board right and Keon Sabb was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 30. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick125 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
They took Parker Brailsford at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick130 Rnd4 Kage Casey
They reached a country mile for Kage Casey at the 130th pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick170 Rnd5 DeAndre Moore Jr.
A real head-scratcher, DeAndre Moore Jr. in pick No. 170 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194 Rnd6 Patrick Payton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Patrick Payton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick197 Rnd6 Mitchell Melton
Value said wait; Mitchell Melton in the 197th pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick200 Rnd6 Da'Shawn Womack
Da'Shawn Womack at pick 200 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick208 Rnd6 Reggie Grimes II
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Reggie Grimes II well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244 Rnd7 Solomon Tuliaupupu
They reached into another round for Solomon Tuliaupupu, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
