FutureA+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B. The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Vincent Anthony Jr., 68 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Beck pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Chamarri Conner pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick45
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at No. 45 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick96
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at slot 96 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
A big swing on Vincent Anthony Jr. at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick170
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson in the 170th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick194
Rnd6
Rayshaun Benny
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rayshaun Benny. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick200
Rnd6
Carson Beck
A quarterback of that caliber at pick No. 200 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick208
Rnd6
Princewill Umanmielen
A wild overpay on Princewill Umanmielen in pick 208, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick244
Rnd7
Amare Campbell
The board had Amare Campbell higher than Round 7, Pick 30, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick246
Rnd7
Joenel Aguero
Joenel Aguero in pick No. 246 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick251
Rnd7
Cayden Lee
Cayden Lee at No. 251 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick256
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
A straight-up fair deal on Brett Norfleet at slot 256, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
