Caveman DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots

B+

FutureB-
The Patriots left with their quarterback, and a B+ to match. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick No. 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In No. 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at slot 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick68
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They took Cooper Beebe at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A tidy little value on Khyree Jackson in the 90th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick103
Rnd4
DeWayne Carter
No drama and no debate, DeWayne Carter went about where he belonged in the 103rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at pick 137 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick180
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 5 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 193 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jordan Magee
The board had Jordan Magee higher than pick 231, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
