The Patriots found their guy under center in Maye: C.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

They will need Sinnott to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Wilson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

With edge rusher and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
They paid sticker price for Drake Maye in pick 3, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick34 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
They paid up for Patrick Paul at Round 2, Pick 2 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Bucky Irving
A wild overpay on Bucky Irving in pick No. 68, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick104 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Sinnott. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick105 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They barely believed it either: Johnny Wilson still on the board at the Round 4 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick136 Rnd4 James Williams
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at the 136th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
